Female Pattern Baldness

Hair loss in women starts around the age of 20-30 and follows a characteristic pattern. Though women rarely go bald but given the importance of hair in a women’s life even slightest of the loss is significant. Female pattern hair loss is due to increased sensitivity of the hair follicles to the underlying hormones and occurs in three stages from 1-3 according to ludwig scale. Other causes for hair loss in women includes iron deficiency anemia, monthly blood loss, infections, autoimmune diseases, thyroid disorders, telogen effluvium, post-partum hair loss, lactation, etc.
